When Class 12 student Priya Sharma, 17, started preparing for the IIT Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) a year ago in Kota, she was anticipating a written test. Now, with the JEE-Advanced going completely online this year, the game has changed for many of the IIT aspirants like her who are preparing hard for the examination.
The online format seems to be difficult to students as time management is a challenge while attempting online mode of exam. Since questions need to be navigated online, deciding which question to solve first is more difficult than with the paper-based test.
According to the Joint Admission Board, the JEE Advanced 2018 Exams will be executed online i.e. it will be a computer-based exam. The committee has made an official announcement that no offline JEE advanced exam will be conducted from 2018, and the second stage of JEE will be conducted only in the online mode. The decision was made after a meeting of all the members of the board, took place. The Board believes that organizing the exam online will decrease the management efforts of carrying out a National level examination of this stature. This will not only make the process of assessment easier it will also prevent any glitches like the one that occurred in JEE Advanced 2017. The issues seen in JEE Advanced twisted into an intense controversy that was later taken to the Court and thus the board was forced to correct the errors.
Now where the students are very new to this update, the coaching centres are really working hard to let aspirants know about the online setup by conducting online JEE Advanced test. Coaching centres provide a computer where they need to answer the questions on screen instead of OMR (optical mark recognition) in the exam hall. The students can use paper and pen for rough work.
Earlier, when the exam was conducted in pen and paper mode, the candidates were supposed to mark the bubble against right answer on an OMR sheet. The online test will allow the candidates to use a keyboard to choose the correct answers as well as intricate the answers by fulfilling required calculations.
Here are some advantages of Online JEE Advanced exam, aspirants must know how online mode for the exam is good for them:
The results will be declared early
One of the prime advantages of JEE Advanced 2018 online exam would be that the results will be declared sooner than the offline mode. This will prevent candidates from panicking for a long time before they could check their score.
No space for printing mistakes
There will be no space for printing or translation errors in question papers as it happened in JEE Advanced 2017. Alike, with the online mode of exams there will be no transportation glitches for the question papers.
Online tests will be very easy and much rapid for the candidates to answer the questions just at a mouse click and using the keyboard rather than attempting questions in paper mode via an OMR sheet, where the candidates were asked to mark the bubbles with pen/pencil. In order to make all this practical, the candidates must get rid of the fear of online exams.
Transparency in Evaluation
While attempting exam in offline mode, candidates used to shade the correct bubble in order to answers on OMR sheets which were later evaluated by machines. So, whenever any questions that were not attempted or marked properly on their OMR sheets were calculated as no attempt/incorrect attempt made during results. The online exam is the best mode to get over such errors as the candidate will click the mouse in order to attempt the question.
Edit/re-edit the answers
Earlier when candidates used pen and paper mode, it was very difficult to edit or re-edit their answers, well this is not the case with online mode as candidates can edit/re-edit their answers multiple times within a given time-frame.
A colour panel provided in JEE advanced online question paper will help the candidates get an overview of the questions answered, questions attempted, etc. through distinct colour schemes. So, the challenges like time management can be striked by the candidates through the colour panel.
Whereas, it is crucial to note that no changes have been made in the pattern of JEE Main examination as of now, it will be organized both in the offline as well as the online mode.
