It is very essential for candidates to know about NTSE preparation and who are the eligible students for this competitive exam. NTSE or National Talent Search Examination is conducted in two stages examination at the state level that is MAT (Mental Aptitude Test) and SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). The preparation for NTSE focus on stage 1 which is a written exam organized at the state level every year in the third week of November and stage 2 which consist of objective test attempted by the students. NTSE is conducted for class 10th students. It is not an easy task to prepare for NTSE exam, it needs a proper guidance and dedication towards the exam. Mental Aptitude Test – Stage 1
MAT or Mental Aptitude Test is a subjective test in which candidates need to answer 100 questions of mental ability in the duration of 90 minutes. The students must know that maximum score is 100 where each question is of 1 mark and for general category the minimum requirement is 40 marks while 32 marks for reserved category students.
Scholastic Aptitude Test – Stage 2
SAT or Scholastic Aptitude Test is an objective exam which needs to be attempted by students in the span of 90 minutes. The exam consists of 100 questions which are to be answered by the candidates in which 40 questions are on Science, 40 questions are on Social Science and remaining 20 questions on Mathematics. Each question is a multiple choice question where you need to choose 1 correct answer out of 4 options. The maximum marks are 100 in which for general category minimum requirement are 40 marks and 32 marks for reserved category students.
Course for NTSE
Before appearing for the examination, the students must know about NTSE Course. Though there is no fixed syllabus for NTSE, SAT follows the school syllabus. Although there is no set syllabus for NTSE, the SAT usually follows your school curriculum. Hence the syllabus for SAT includes mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, civics, geography and general awareness topics. The syllabus is covered till class 9 and partially in class 10.
How to prepare for NTSE?
The students must know that MAT and SAT carry equal weight in NTSE exam. So it is very important to give time to both the papers while preparing for NTSE. Some of the students tend to amplify preparation of three subjects but in the preparation, they tend to avoid MAT. However, students must realize that MAT carries more weight than any of the subjects. Here is some advice given by the mentors on how to prepare for NTSE.
The students must begin their preparation with last year’s question papers of NTSE. The motive is to understand the kinds of questions asked and recent level question of NTSE. The mentors suggest that students must attempt previous year’s paper and NTSE sample questions, try to attempt all the questions with seriousness. This will help students to gain a knowledge of NTSE and also provides a fair idea of the students standing analysis of their performance. Make sure that students must focus on the weak areas and strong areas so that they can improve and avoid silly mistakes further in actual exams. The students must analyze their performance every minute and ensure their preparation with an analyze report.
Once the students know their weak points, make a plan for preparation with a time management. The students definitely need to study and revise the subject matter. This preparation requires not just for NTSE but also for school syllabus preparation. So there is no letting up on that front. The students should concentrate to practice more mental ability questions. The allocation of time will be depending upon the analysis of how weak or strong they are in the particular aspect.

- As soon as students start their preparation for NTSE exam, they get confident enough of their speed, accuracy and subject knowledge.
In this way, the students can practice and crack NTSE exam with best scores. The students are advised to start preparation by grade 8th so that they can give the appropriate time to the preparations.
The students are suggested that the first step in preparation is to know all about NTSE and keep in mind about other national level talent search exams like NSO, KVPY, NCO etc. which are organized annually. Since the syllabus content and exam pattern is similar, it can be useful for students to appear in those exams too.
